Move from hearts to an event
Choose one NPC route and watch the current heart state. A gift or conversation can be useful, but the next event may also need a place, date, time, quest, or relationship status. Read the NPC’s dialogue and the active quest before travelling. If the event does not trigger, do not immediately repeat the same gift; check the other conditions first.
Use Gifts and Birthdays when the problem is the item you can carry. Use Marriage and Family when the question begins at 10 hearts or engagement. Keeping those intents separate makes the route easier to debug.
Make dates part of the schedule
Dates are most useful when they share a town or farm route. Finish urgent care, carry the planned gift or meal, and leave time for the date location. The official 1.0 notes say 10-heart proposal events can be retriggered with the Engagement Ring until you choose to propose and become engaged. Recover from a missed event

Keep the event route separate from the gift route in your notes. A successful gift can raise a heart level without proving that the next scene is available. After an event, record the new relationship state and the next visible option. Do not infer that a proposal, wedding, or family scene is available merely because a heart counter changed. The full-release milestone adds several new states, and the official notes distinguish them from ordinary conversations and dates.
